Michael Schur's Favorite Joke From 'The Good Place' Might Be One That You Missed, And It's Amazing

There is so much to love about The Good Place. It’s a goddamn miracle of a show that manages to find the perfect balance of jokes per minute and genuine heart and is honestly a bright spot in an often gloom and doom television line up. While I appreciate the fact that every season is a tight 13 episodes — all killer, no filler — I need new episodes on my eyeballs as soon as possible.

At an unofficial For Your Consideration panel, showrunner Michael Schur shed some light on his favorite joke from season two.

“Oh, that’s my favorite joke of the year. When they go to The Bad Place and the train pulls into the station, they get out and Michael’s saying like, ‘Keep walking, keep walking.’ But on the wall there’s a movie poster, and it says, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 6: The Haunted Crow’s Nest or Whatever, Who Gives a Crap?’ Then at the bottom it says, ‘Playing in every theatre, everywhere, forever.’

I like it for many reasons, but the No. 1 reason I like it is that the implication is that that’s where those movies are made, and then they’re exported up here. That’s where they come from; they’re made in hell.”

It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite joke on The Good Place — I for one will never tire of that dopey angel Jason Mendoza screaming about Blake Bortles — but the most beautiful thing about this revelation is that an incredible gag like Pirates Of The Caribbean In Hell is in the background. This show is so chock full of amazing layers that a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot is this great. We may be in the Bad Place IRL, but at least we have The Good Place.

If this comment section doesn’t devolve into a GIF thread, I will be so disappointed in you people. I know you won’t let me down.
