NBC Fails to Understand the First Rule of 'Rosemary's Baby' Remakes: NEVER SHOW THE BABY
Did you watch the Rosemary’s Baby remake on NBC? Yeah, nobody else did, either. Ratings for the first installment of the Zoe Saldana starrer on Mother’s Day were dreadful, with only 3.7 million people tuning in.
People were wise to stay away, because not only did the remake get terrible reviews, but they violated the first rule of Rosemary’s Baby, which is to never show the baby. But they did, and not only did they show they baby, NBC actually tweeted it out after the East Coast airing, so that anyone who was following NBC on Twitter on the West Coast or who was naive enough to record it and save it for later were completely spoiled.
Not that it’s a huge spoiler, but …
Where are the demonic eyes? That’s a cute baby. It doesn’t look like the bastard of Satan. It’s adorable. That image isn’t going to haunt anyone, unlike the original which never showed us the baby and left us imagining what it looked like.
Did you know that the original right’s holder, William Castle, also wanted to show the baby in the 1968 film? That’s why it’s a good thing Roman Polanski wrestled away the director’s chair because while he may be a terrible real-life person, he at least understands that the f*cking point of Rosemary’s Baby was to leave the image of the baby to our imaginations.
