Did Julia Louis-Dreyfus Drastically Cut Her Hair for 'Veep'?

I’m just putting this out there because it was the first thought I had while watching last night’s episode of Veep, but the answer is No. Julia Louis-Dreyfus did not Felicity herself in real life. She is wearing a wig for Veep, which she introduced in last night’s episode of the HBO series. However, that haircut is in for the long-haul and not just something for last night’s episode. She’s still wearing the wig in the final two episodes of the season, which air next week, as you can see from the previews:

Why would her character cut her hair off? As Louis-Dreyfus told EW in early April:

“The wig was an important move and I’m really glad we did it. There’s a seriousness to that wig that I really like that helps bring things for me into focus. My hair, which is fairly long, does not look like hair that’s inside the Beltway and I didn’t want to cut my own hair. And my hair doesn’t have quite the right look for this.

Also, because it allows the writers to incorporate a lot of boy/lesbian jokes, like:

“It’s the worst use of scissors since my failed vasectomy.”

“People don’t elect elves, OK. They put them to work on grottos or they get them drunk at frat parties so they can toss them.”

“Think of all the lesbian jokes we’re going to have to suffer: Strap-on Selina. Selina Navratilova. Fingering the dyke.”

And honestly, while it was jarring at first, the style grew on me by the end of the episode. It looks good, but then again, Julia Louis-Dreyfus is not capable of anything else.
