If you haven’t seen it yet, and because it is always worth watching Hannah Waddingham belt out a song — all the more so with her Ted Lasso castmate — here are Waddingham and Jason Sudeikis performing “Shallow” together. It begins with Sudeikis and Will Forte — who performed “Shallow” together at this same event in 2019 — but Forte is pushed aside this time for Waddingham.
The Forte version is funnier — if only to watch him try to hit those high notes — but Waddingham is obviously the far superior singer. Sudeikis, in both cases, is much better than one might have imagined.
The performance is part of Thundergong, an annual event in Kansas City hosted by Sudeikis designed to raise money for those who have lost limbs. Previous years’ performances have included Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) doing Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” Sudeikis — in character as Ted Lasso — performing Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam’s “Wide World” along with Coach Beard, and Sam Richardson covering Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” Kill 10 minutes and click on all of them; I assume all the proceeds will go to Steps of Faith Foundation.
