The power of a single image. The sheer power that can be contained within one shot. Like the tip of an iceberg poking out of the water, it shouldn’t be underestimated. To those that know what lies underneath, even seeing just the relatively small hint visible to all is enough. This is what was on Twitter’s mind the other day when the great following prompt appeared:
What’s a still from a movie or TV show that will completely devastate anyone who has seen it, but seem completely unremarkable to anyone who hasn’t?

To some, it proved trickier than it might at first have seemed to be to find shots that were actually visually unremarkable as well as devastating to those in the know, as the original Tweeter mentioned:
I think this is the best one I’ve seen (though it’s more unnerving than devastating with context). The ideal answer is something with the most possible mundanity from a glance *and* impact with context. pic.twitter.com/LNTJkk5KzM

I read this book with my daughter & we saw the movie a few weeks later. I sobbed on my 10 year old’s shoulder while she whispered “Mommy, I know it seems sad but, remember this is just a movie & it isn’t real.” pic.twitter.com/gLd4QrS8ZD
