Earlier this week, Paul Ryan seemed to express a complete misunderstanding of how insurance works, arguing that the fatal flaw in Obamacare is that healthy people have to subsidize insurance for sick people.
Paul Ryan: “The fatal conceit of Obamacare” is that healthy people are subsidizing the sick. Isn’t that how employer-based insurance works? pic.twitter.com/eGW7nfoCYP

For someone considered a policy wonk, Paul Ryan doesn’t seem to have even a basic understanding of healthcare policy. Or of insurance. But he is not alone among Republicans. In 2009, Republican Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona complained that men should not have to pay for maternity care. In 2013, GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers asked the Health and Human Services Secretary at the time, “To the best of your knowledge has a man ever delivered a baby?” objecting to the fact that men still have to pay for maternity coverage.
Last night, during a Congressional debate, a GOP Congressman John Shimkus continued the trend by taking issue with the fact that men have to pay for prenatal care.

Here’s how one guy reacted to Oswalt’s tweet:

If I'm single and it's not my kid, why pay more for insurance for other people's PreNatal Care? Not my problem. My money.
I don’t think it’s necessary to explain the fundamentals of insurance to our readers, but suffice to say, one cannot buy insurance a la carte. If your family has a history of heart problems, you can’t buy insurance coverage for just heart conditions. If a man is impotent, he can’t just buy Viagra coverage. No, women have to subsidize boner bills, just as men have to subsidize maternity care.
The reaction from Twitter ranged from livid to “fuck you.”
@RepShimkus Why should men pay for prenatal care? Ask your wife and three kids and maybe take a basic intro class on health insurance mkt

The GOP are such fucking monsters. They don't want women to have access to abortion yet also don't want to help pay for prenatal care.

@RepShimkus 2. Men will comprise about half of the babies born i.e. They Benefit from prenatal care,Some people (you) shouldn't be in office

Dear John Shimkus (R-IL.); Until YOU can successfully keep the penis from entering the vagina, men should have to pay for prenatal coverage.

"Why should men pay for prenatal care?"

"MOTHERFUCKER, WERE YOU BORN?" https://t.co/vAJmuhqS2m
I think that last one sums up the issue nicely.
Whoever runs against this man in 2018 needs to play that clip on a loop.
