These Male Tears About A Women-Only Screening For "Wonder Woman" Are Delicious

We’re only one week away from Wonder Woman finally being released in theaters, and judging from many of the early reviews and responses from critics/bloggers/incredibly lucky fans who have already seen it, director Patty Jenkins has given us very little to worry about in terms of bringing Diana, Princess of Themyscira to life in all of her amazing glory. And despite the fact that many people have expressed concerns over how Wonder Woman has been marketed and whether or not more could’ve and should’ve been done to promote the film, Warner Bros./DC have been doing such an impressive job these last few weeks with TV spots, billboards, an impossible-to-ignore display of posters in Times Square (which Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins geeked out and Kermit-flailed over upon their recent arrival in New York), and beautifully-designed poster after beautifully-designed poster that isn’t ridiculously cluttered and poorly designed to the point that it makes you look at it like this. (Seriously, Jon Favreau, you’re awesome and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do with The Lion King, but…why are you even on this poster? No, really, why?!)

Anyway…the Alamo Drafthouse, the immensely popular chain of movie theaters with a zero-tolerance policy for people who refuse to stay quiet and stay off of their phones during the movies that are playing, decided to do their part to make the viewing experience for Wonder Woman a special one and created a for-women-only screening of Wonder Woman at their theater in Austin. From their website:

The most iconic superheroine in comic-book history finally has her own movie, and what better way to celebrate than with an all-female screening?

Apologies, gentlemen, but we’re embracing our girl power and saying “No Guys Allowed” for one special night at the Alamo Ritz. And when we say “Women (and People Who Identify As Women) Only,” we mean it. Everyone working at this screening — venue staff, projectionist, and culinary team — will be female.

So lasso your geeky girlfriends together and grab your tickets to this celebration of one of the most enduring and inspiring characters ever created.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for men (and at least one woman) to see this, take offense and blow up the Alamo Ritz’s Facebook page with angry posts. Because when women create spaces to enjoy and discuss something only among themselves, there will be men who will kick in the door like The Notorious B.I.G. and demand a seat at that very table.

From The Alamo Ritz’s Facebook page:

I really do hope that every Alamo Drafthouse theater in every city decides to go the same route and have their own for-women-only screenings of Wonder Woman. It’s a great way to encourage attendance and good box-office and also a great way to encourage all of us to invest in scuba gear so that we can swim through all of the male tears that are always shed during times like this. Just like we swam through male tears when Charlize Theron was given more screentime and dialogue than Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road, when Zendaya was cast to (possibly) play Mary-Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and when every Blu-Ray/DVD/videotape/35mm reel of the original Ghostbusters was burned, destroyed, and wiped out of existence to be replaced with the all-female remake of Ghostbusters. Because swimming in the tears of men who can’t stand the very thought of being told that they can’t say, do, or have everything they want never gets old.
