For the past week or so I’ve been noticing a trend pop up throughout my Twitter feed. It’s a fun little template that usually takes the form of either ‘What’s something that FEELS like [X] but actually isn’t?’ or ‘What’s something that ISN’T [X] but feels like it IS?’. I’ve seen a hell of a lot of permutations of it, and I have no idea which one was the first one. Twitter template memes are usually pretty fun because you get to see a whole bunch of people chiming in with their varied answers to a certain question. What’s even more fun about this one is that the question itself is part of the variation. Here are some highlights of the ‘What’s something that FEELS like [X] but actually isn’t?’ that’s been taking over Twitter recently:

Virtually all forms of bigotry, which while they arise from potentially non-economic seeds, are deliberately stoked and perpetuated by the owners of capital in order to divide those who work for their money

A lot of psychological problems (at least to some extent), individualism, alienation, a lot inequality on many levels, a bunch of wars, the constant need to feel like you are being productive, unhealthy food intake, privatisation of basic human needs like water, etc

Thatcher, Christine Legarde, Frances Fitzgerald …. that vibe …. ‘high powered women’ implementing the most masculine policies and upholding and strengthening the most patriarchal structures of societal inequality. It annoys me. They’re not feminist icons to me.

Having a one-dimensional "badass" lady who only exists to kick ass and isn't allowed to be nuanced or have emotions because that would make her weak. Or not letting her have a romantic partner because being in love would somehow diminish her character. 💁♀️

Acting like the fact that sexuality isn't quite as straightforward, rigid, and chromosome-based as some people think is trans people's fault for highlighting it, or that anyone attracted to trans people must actually be bisexual.

Always saying "preferred pronouns" or "identifies as" when it comes to trans people while cis peopel just "are" and have "pronouns"
