There have been a lot of great cover versions going round in the months and months of lockdowns that we have all had to face as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. We’ve all been trying our best to cope, and it just so happens that musicians trying to cope has helped the rest of us cope too. They have been one of the few sources of joy in this dark, uncertain period. There was Metallica, performing an acoustic version of their classic, ‘Blackened.’ There was the Melodicka Brothers’ haunting take on System of a Down’s ‘BYOB’. Sh*t, there was Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante just dedicating his whole YouTube channel to putting out a series of awesome cover jams starring his musician friends. Here they are doing Living Color’s ‘Funny Vibe’ with Corey Glover himself on vocals:

And here they are tearing through Soundgarden’s ‘Rusty Cage’:

That whole channel is amazing amounts of fun and you should check it out.

But my new favourite quarantine cover project is a bunch of college kids shooting for the stars and hitting the dark side of the Moon (sorry). Here they are, the UMass Lowell Pink Floyd Ensemble, doing a genuinely fantastic cover of one of the greatest albums of all time (just wait for ‘The Great Gig in the Sky’):
