I’ve had a lot of fun on TikTok. As far as the poison wells of social media go, it’s probably the one I’ve felt the least deleterious effects on my mind from. Not that that’s a great bar to clear, but probably partly thanks to the relatively limited time I allow myself to spend on it and partly due to the scarily effective algorithm (seriously, how ridiculous is that algorithm) just serving me up dogs, heavy metal, and people falling down, I definitely feels less oily and suffocated by it than by things like Twitter. Funnily enough, TikTok also has a hell of a lot of very well written and delivered critiques of American imperialism on it that reaches millions of people, which obviously has nothing at all to do with the decision made by the US government to ban it. Anyway! Might as well sneak a few great TikToks in now, before the ban! Here’s a delicious one that sublimely straddles the line between stupid and genius:
