We’ve said it a hundred times before here and I’ll say it again: The obsession with ‘plot holes’ and subservience to some weird, idealised version of ‘logic’ that so many ‘film fans’ seem to have is dumb. It’s anti-art. It’s not even the derided ‘accountant’s truth’ in Herzog’s famous ‘ecstatic truth versus accountant’s truth’ formulation. It’s cinema. It’s fiction. It doesn’t need to explain everything, and it’s allowed to take liberties with reality. Dramatic heft and emotional truth over ‘real-life’ verisimilitude every day.
