Elon Musk is throwing a legal temper tantrum. The self-proclaimed “free speech absolutist” and the owner of X (formerly Twitter) has decided that free speech is great until it impacts his bank account.

X Corp, which has seen its advertising revenue plunge since Elon Musk has taken over, is suing advertisers for the the crime of not wanting their brands associated with a platform that’s become a cesspool of misinformation and hate speech. Who wouldn’t want their family-friendly product advertised on a platform where its owner actually promotes civil war?

Legal experts are laughing at Musk. It’s a desperate move with no chance of success. Musk’s lawsuit alleges a conspiracy among advertisers to boycott X because, obviously, the only reason companies wouldn’t want to advertise on a platform rapidly descending into irrelevance is a cabal of mean advertisers out to get Elon. I’m sure it has nothing to do with Musk’s chaotic management.

In short: X Corp is suing a bunch of big companies and an advertising group, claiming they teamed up to hurt X’s business. They say these companies, like Unilever and Mars, got together through an organization called GARM and decided to stop advertising on X all at once after Elon Musk bought the company. Musk says this isn’t fair *stomp* *stomp*

X is arguing that these companies didn’t just happen to make the same decision at the same time but actually talked to each other and conspired to pull their ads together. They’re saying this is illegal because it’s not each company making its own choice but a group effort to damage X’s business, nevermind the fact that a number of advertisers specifically left after he told them to “f**k off.”

In short: Musk ruined his platform, told advertisers to f**k off, and when they did, he decided to sue them for doing exactly that.
