Indiana University Fraternity Suspended For Vile Sexual Hazing Act Involving a Stripper

Have I ever mentioned that I was in a fraternity? For less than a year, before I came to my senses (and later outed the frat’s hazing activities in the university paper). It’s an unpleasant business, these fraternities, and when you’re a freshman in college trying to make friends in an unfamiliar surrounding, it’s an easy trap to fall into. Once you’re there, you find that you want to fit in and impress your new “brothers,” and that almost always entails large amounts of alcohol and doing sexually degrading things.

For instance, at Indiana University, a video has surfaced showing a pledge, during a hazing incident, going down on a stripper. The stripper had the pledge in a headlock while he orally pleased her (though, I can assure you that she received no pleasure from this). A crowd of other fraternity members — many of them naked — stood around and cheered, until the pledge tapped out by slapping the naked stripper’s ass. There were other men lined up to be next.

Besides the fact that it’s degrading and totally fucked up, I will never understand why 50 naked guys would want to hang out with each other and watch. It’s like dudes who watch porn together: What the fuck? What are you going to do? Whip it out in front of each other?

Anyway, Indiana University suspended the fraternity for an incident the university says perpetuates sexual misconduct (you think?). The National Alpha Tau Omega fraternity has also suspended all activities within the chapter.

Our campus is committed to a culture of care. Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) is suspended immediately, pending investigation into hazing allegations.
