Goddamnit, you guys. Why didn’t I know that Gabrielle Union is awesome? I mean, I’m aware that she was awesome in the seminal 2000 film Bring It On (I am not ashamed), but I was not aware that she’d continued being awesome. When asked last night at the Sundance Premiere of Birth of a Nation what Union thought of certified hypocrite Stacey Dash, she had the perfect answer.

It’s a pretty fair answer. Stacey Dash might have done some acting work, but she’s now trying to make herself known for being a crazy person. Twitter didn’t let it go unnoticed.

(And nice tie in to Twitter’s other new favorite hastag.)

But for real:

And while I love a good schadenfreude story every once in a while, it’s what Union says about awards shows that I really love.

“If you don’t see yourself in mainstream awards, you tend to create your own.”

Whether unintentionally or by design, the Oscars are a de facto “white” award. If Dash really does want to get rid of the NAACP Image Awards, The BET Awards or the ALMA Awards, she should focus on making the Oscars look a little more like them.
