San Diego Comic-Con is a place for fandom in all forms, and that includes celebrities cosplaying. Last year, Black Panther’s Lupita Nyong’o got to enjoy the festivities carefree, incognito in a pink Power Ranger costume. Breaking Bad’s Byran Cranston once pulled off something similar, walking around in a Walter White mask, while Mark Hamill collided his most famous franchise with his anti-Trump activism for a very special and disturbing mash-up look. But not every celeb cosplays to hide in plain sight. This year, promoting Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald at the Warner Bros panel, Justice League’s Ezra Miller came to stand out. He came as Mario Bros’s Toadette.

And he didn’t just wear his Toadette couture on the floor for fun and photo ops. Miller took this gender-bending outfit of pretty pink lingerie and macho chest hair to the Hall H stage, and all of the Fantastic Beasts photo-ops.

You might think he’s following in the tradition blazed by John Barrowman, a god to geekdom and LGBTQA+ icon who regularly cosplays as female characters for Comic-Con panels. But the openly queer and unrepentantly nerdy Miller might take issue with this comparison.

Naturally, Miller’s game look won hearts at SDCC and beyond.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens later this year and still co-stars alleged abuser Johnny Depp, despite repeated outcry from fans for J.K. Rowling to stand up for the victims of abuse who found a source of inspiration in Harry Potter’s journeys.
