And This Is Why You Don't Parkour On Rooftops

I have a morbid fascination with people who parkour on rooftops. ‘Rooftopping’ or ‘roofing’ as it’s frequently called is incredibly dangerous, often illegal, and very often just really stupid and irresponsible. Yet I just can’t help myself. There’s something about the practice that I can’t look away from. Maybe it’s because I’ve been climbing things my whole life—both as a child when I would just scale anything I could wrap my fingers around and as an adult when…well, pretty much the same remains true only now with the added knowledge of climbing gyms being a thing. That’s part of the reason why I loved Free Solo so much. And why I continue to consume so much height-and-climbing-danger-based-stuff (I know, I know, I’m a poet), even when it gets head-spinningly dangerous. To wit: A video that made my insides coil up and threaten to fully blast off and away from my earthly body. I’m gonna share it here because what’s joy (and terror) without it being shared? But beware, it features a rooftopper almost plummeting to the ground but only just being saved by a lucky cable, and it’s not for the faint of heart. A higher quality YouTube video here, but this is the available embed:
