The whole internet’s been blowing up with The Silence of the Lambs tributes this week, as this past Valentine’s weekend (BECAUSE ROMANCE) was the 25th anniversary of the movie’s release. Among those tributes is this fantastic collage from W Magazine of various actresses doing screen tests for the (long-since cast) role of Hannibal Lecter.
My personal verdict: Kristen Wiig wins it. Although if it were up to me, she’d be a shoe-in for a female Buffalo Bill. Jane Fonda is, obviously, fantastic, but she and Tangerine’s Mya Taylor are both a bit theatrical to be reconciled with the icy Lecter we’re used to. Carey Mulligan is a total Clarice, and Greta Gerwig just needs a comb.
It should be noted, though, that no matter how well any of these women do with the reading, this nonexistent reboot role was cast months ago. Sorry, ladies.
