Michael Mann is undoubtedly one of my favourite filmmakers. His deeply psychological character studies cloaked in slick, atmospheric thrillers drenched in quiet existential, often urban, torment are immensely my sh*t. I’ve written before about my intense love for Collateral—the best film Tom Cruise will ever make, and a film I will probably write about again because I just adore it so much—and I’ve never managed to bite the bullet and overcome the sheer intimidation factor to write about the film that sits alongside the Before Trilogy as my favourite of all time. Luckily, someone with far more skill than myself has covered that, and with typical quality.
