Watch Bradley Cooper Soothe the Fake Baby in 'American Sniper'

If you haven’t seen it yet (or if you’re not going to see it), this clip from American Sniper doesn’t really spoil anything for you, but it does give you a really good look at the terrible fake baby that’s provoked nearly as much conversation as the movie itself.

It really is the fakest-looking baby since Dexter.

If you’re wondering why they’d use a fake baby, the answer is: I don’t really know. I guess because it’s expensive and a hassle to use a real baby that’s that young. (The baby has to be at least 15 days old, there’s all sorts of releases the parents must sign, and you still have to deal with the unpredictability of a baby while trying to film an otherwise intense scene.) Still, for a film with a $60 million budget, you’d think they’d try for something that wasn’t so obviously a prop, because it takes you right out of the scene.
