There are fans, and then there are fans, and there are fan films, and then there’s Star Wars Uncut. It’s a labor of love, not created by a handful of fans, but created by literally hundreds of fans. Conceived by then-25 year old web developer Casey Pugh, who began the project at the age of 25, it’s a crowdsourced film that was created by fans who each claimed a 15 second segment and then used whatever techniques they wanted to create it. Then, Pugh and company edited them all together and created a full-length, shot-for-shot recreation of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

It’s a fascinating not-so-little experiment, a massive collaborative effort that took more than two years to create. Each segment is radically different from the others, ranging from CGI creations to Legos to action figures to low-budget live actors with dime store costumes. There’s even a segment that borrows footage from Teen Wolf. In some scenes the original dialogue is dubbed in, in others the actors speak the lines. It’s a strangely beautiful little creation, and it’s now online in its entirety. Believe it or not, I watched the entire thing and you know what? It’s pretty goddamn great. It’s a ton of fun, and it’s amazing to see such a huge labor of love come to fruition. I highly recommend you take two hours out of your day and watch the whole damn thing, handily provided below.

Oh, and don’t worry — Han shoots first.
