How Can Fox News Correspondents Criticize Obama's Tearful Gun Control Speech and Still Call Themselves Human Beings?

Most of us haven’t done a great job of keeping up with The Daily Show after Jon Stewart left. For most, this doesn’t have anything to do with Trevor Noah himself, and we’ve been told the show has gotten past its growing pains. It’s just not the immediate go-to source for political commentary it once was for us. After last night’s episode, though, that might have changed.

Last night, Noah dove into President Obama’s mission to introduce and enforce necessary restrictions on firearms. First of all, Trevor Noah GETS US. Because what better metaphor for Obama’s struggles with Congress than a video of a cute raccoon? There is none.

The real heart of the segment, though, comes when Noah calls out Fox News’ response to Obama’s recent speech on gun control. You’ve probably seen at least the clip of the speech where he tears up while talking about the first graders who were murdered in Newtown. That was an incredibly powerful and emotional moment. We live in a country where people are so afraid of entirely nonexistent threats to their “freedoms,” that children being murdered still isn’t a worse fate than having to show ID at a gun show. Any human should be outraged to the point of tears by that fact. And yet correspondent after correspondent over at Fox had nothing but criticism for Obama, going so far as to say that his response “isn’t believable,” and that if he didn’t cry on television after the Paris attacks, he shouldn’t be crying now.

If you can make it through their commentary without screaming at your computer or phone, you’re a better person than I.

Before he took over, Noah said that The Daily Show was going to shift its focus away from the constant Fox News bashing, but thank god they didn’t ignore this. Because, as Noah himself says, it’s a damn tragedy that “the rest of us have to share the title of ‘human being’ with [them].”
