Some day—in the probably not too distant future—when we have long since destroyed ourselves and all traces of our dumb, oh-so dumb civilisation have long since faded from the cosmic stage, you might find, floating in some obscure corner of the solar system, little fragments of what once was, expelled out—purposefully or otherwise. Things we left behind, evidence of who we were, scribbles on the walls of infinity. A Voyager spacecraft here or there. Eternal microplastics infecting the endless void, a vile signature. And sad, lonely echoes of maybe our greatest contribution to it all: Music. You know what’ll still be ringing out when we’re all gone, don’t you? Vibrating out there amidst the great microwave background.
