Like many of you, I spent much of the early aughts held firmly under the spell of Fight Club. It was the perfect movie for an impressionable youth floundering after the disappointment of the world not ending with Y2K. The movie blew my wee young mind, and this Honest Trailer finally gives a perfect explanation as to why. Some key points:
-It’s endlessly quotable.
-The twists were crazy enough to blow a wee mind, but signposted (in big bright neon) enough to make you feel SUPER SMART after the fact.
-It gives the impression of CHALLENGING EVERYTHING (damn the man!), when in reality it challenges exactly nothing.
Throw in some fancy Fincher camera work and you’ve got yourself a late-teen dream. I say all of this, of course, as a staunch superfan. But it’s good to have our youthful obsessions rubbed in our faces every once in a while.
