I have to admit, I haven’t actually been paying attention to the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story casting news. If I’m being really honest, I didn’t even quite understand what was going on. “There’s another Star Wars movie? But it’s not the next one in the series? And it’s not the one being done by the Looper guy? OK, I’m just going to have to wait for the finished product.”
The finished project is here. And holy shit, you guys.
I mean HOLY SHIT. Did everyone see how good that was? And how it seems like an actual movie that just happens to take place in the Star Wars universe? And how they managed to walk the very fine line of feeling like a Star Wars movie while tweaking it enough to make sure it somehow also feels completely different? Did everyone hear that goddamn score?!
Don’t get me wrong, I loved The Force Awakens, but it was a justifiable fan film in order to make up for Those Movies Which Shall Not Be Named. When TFA trailers came out, we still had the residual Lucasness of the franchise to deal with so I wouldn’t let myself get really excited about it. This is literally the first time in my entire life I have watched a Star Wars trailer and been unreservedly excited about the movie.
I can’t fucking wait.
