It was a weekend of sporting drama: the World Cup finals, the Wimbledon finals, The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever… Yes, that’s a thing. The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is in its third year; to mark the occasion, groups of fans (and those who are game for a bit of a laugh) from all over the world get together and recreate Kate Bush’s iconic dance routine for ‘Wuthering Heights’. In costume, naturally. For a taste of how pure and joyous this event is, take a look at this call for volunteers, from the Sheffield contingent of The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever:

Dear Friends Here we are stepping out of a long, cold winter. We are all thinking, we could do with some fun… So we have something VERY important to announce. We have oodles of fun for you!

WE WARMLY INVITE YOU TO CHANNEL YOUR INNER CATHY AND JOIN US TO RECREATE KATE BUSH’S ICONIC WUTHERING HEIGHTS DANCE VIDEO IN SOUTH ST PARK AMPHITHEATRE SHEFFIELD ON SATURDAY 14 JULY, 2 PM. OH YES!!!!!!!

Lads, lasses, kiddies, grandmas, pets… if you like dancing, even if you ‘can’t’ dance (there’s no such thing) we would love you to join us for some communal lunacy. Dress in red like the mighty KATE BUSH and wuther like you’ve never wuthered before. Fling yourself about with wild abandon, climb through windows and grab Heathcliff’s soul away. There will be lead dancers to follow on the day, so you don’t have to worry about learning the moves beforehand.

It’s (Yorkshire lass) Emily Brontë’s 200th birthday, Kate’s 60th birthday and the song’s 40th birthday. You will be part of a worldwide celebration - other groups in Melbourne, San Francisco, Sydney, Gothenburg, Dublin (to name a few) will be wuthering all at the same time! (Facebook)

Without further ado, behold the joy and “wild abandon” of hundreds of people wuthering like they’ve never wuthered before.

The song is stuck in your head now, right? You’re welcome!
