A few weeks ago, The Daily Show taped a segment with Jason Jones in which Native Americans confronted Washington Redskins fans and challenged their opinions about the Redskins name. The Redskins fans were not comfortable with that, however. They felt ambushed and “in danger” and one of the participants even filed a criminal complaint (all four attempted to retract their releases).

But instead of nixing the story for fear of upsetting those Redskins fans, The Daily Show and Jon Stewart not only went ahead with it, but they included within it the complains from the fans, which ultimately helped demonstrate the point that the name is offensive.

“We learned later that some of the participants who participated in the piece — they didn’t enjoy the experience.” Stewart said, in introducing the piece. “We take the complaints seriously … If we find out in a piece that someone was intentionally misled or if their comments were intentionally misrepresented. We do not air that piece. With that said, I hope you enjoy the following piece.”
