Yep, (at least) one more post about Beyonce. Because here’s the thing: you don’t have to get her and you don’t have to like her, but we are all going to have to stop pretending that she’s in any way out of touch with “middle America.” The fact that she’s a black woman who’s unafraid to talk about her empowerment: financial — sexual, personal or otherwise? — that’s only “radical” because you’re uncomfortable with it.
And while we could list for days past singers and songs that have dealt with the same topics that “Formation” does while somehow causing zero controversy, it’s significantly more enjoyable to watch Jessica Williams break it down for us.
What’s most amusing to me is the idea that Beyonce herself is somehow threatening. Guys, she doesn’t have to be. This is a woman who almost fell while performing at the Super Bowl, caught herself, jumped right back into the dance, and made that shit look good.
She’s that bitch that doesn’t need to be threatening. She’s too busy being flawless.
