Ridley Scott Says There'll Be No Xenomorphs in 'Prometheus 2,' But No Worries, We'll See How David Gets His Head Back On

As Ridley Scott points out in a new interview, the first value (to consider) of returning to the worlds of Prometheus or Blade Runner is commercial. So that should answer a question or two in your brain, but that the titles are valuable isn’t necessarily the answer we want to hear about sequels to such iconic films, and it’s kind of disappointing to hear a man like Scott talking this way. He has other answers too; no, we won’t see the xenomorphs again:

“The beast is done. Cooked,” he says simply. “I got lucky meeting [Alien designer] H.R. Giger all those years ago. It’s very hard to repeat that. I just happen to be the one who forced it through because they said it’s obscene. They didn’t want to do it and I said, ‘I want to do it, it’s fantastic’. But after four [he has conveniently forgotten the AvP movies], I think it wears out a little bit. There’s only so much snarling you can do. I think you’ve got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we’ve found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start.”

Apparently Prometheus 2’s more important answers lies with David, the *SPOILER decapitated android rescued at Prometheus’ end. Answering a question about what people should expect to see, Scott replied:

“”You’ll probably have to go with [Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw] and [Michael Fassbender’s android David] — without his head. Find out how he gets his head back on!”

Yes, that will certainly help us work through our myriad problems with Prometheus’ plotline! And so will knowing that he’s working on the final script now, after fifteen “evolving” drafts.

Here’s part of the first interview (warning: keep your volume down until after the obnoxious opening ad plays):

Scott is next working on The Martian, with Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara and Mackenzie Davis, followed by either Prometheus 2 or Blade Runner 2 (He’s already met with Harrison Ford.)
