This has been a hell of a day, hasn’t it? Do you need something to ease the hurt of a day made of tragedy? Well, I’ve got something for you then. Kids all across the U.S. returned to school this week, which meant teachers and administrators have been preparing for the school year start. Which of course means lots of boring meetings— sitting in auditoriums, listening to planning strategies and inspirational pep talks and being interrupted by fantastically organized flash mobs singing Les Misrables parodies about the pledge of allegiance and art supplies.
—Wait, what was that last one?
I honestly don’t know why flash mobs— especially the musical theatre-y ones— always make me a little weepy, but they do, without fail. Maybe I just like seeing people enthusiastic about something, or giving into their excitement with nerdy abandon, or maybe today is just full of feelings.
Whatever the reason, thank you, you awesome teachers of West Des Moines. Your students are supremely lucky.
