Yesterday was a big day for late night, as the attention moved away from David Letterman and toward David Letterman’s replacement, Stephen Colbert. Jon Stewart kicked it off on The Daily Show with a fine tribute to Colbert, that included a hilarious old clip of Colbert just completely losing it during one of his remote segments. Stewart doesn’t short-change Letterman, though, calling him the “best there ever was.”

On Colbert: “There is no greater joy than seeing a genuinely good man who works as hard as he can everyday and deserves all the success in the world actually get that success.”

Well said.

Colbert then turned right around and paid tribute to the man he is replacing, ending his segment with “‘I do not envy whoever replaces Letterman — those are some huge shoes to fill.”

Meanwhile over on The Late Show, knowing Dave as we do, he’s probably already sick and tired of all the attention he’s been getting this week, so what does he do? He shows some appreciation for Brooklyn Decker’s incredibly short shorts, before turning to Decker’s career in modeling, which she recently quit to take up television. That segment ends gloriously with both Decker and Letterman flipping off the camera, because Letterman just ain’t care no more!
