Jon Stewart Meticulously Calls Out the Media's Bullshit Surrounding the Baltimore Riots

If there’s one thing I hope The Daily Show hangs onto after Jon Stewart leaves, it’s his ability to identify and dispatch bullshit at a breakneck pace. And this piece on the Baltimore riots offered more bullshit than usual.

The bullshit about how differently the media treats riots depending on who’s doing it? That’s bullshit.

The bullshit about Wolf Blitzer continually forgetting about riots in major American cities? That’s bullshit.

The bullshit about society basically ignoring the deteriorating socioeconomic conditions of a large metropolitan area until the place is a powder keg? That’s bullshit.

The bullshit about police violence? That’s bullshit.

And the bullshit about how the police force has become the de facto social service for neighborhoods without access to employment, education, health or child care? That’s effing bullshit.

And after Stewart brushed aside all of the bullshit, the underlying truth is that the riots in Baltimore are the result of decades of economic and cultural forces too large and too powerful to have a simple solution. Even if this riot manages to stir the national consciousness enough to create substantial change, there still won’t be any winners here. But as always, the loser will be Wolf Blitzer.
