The Daily Show interviews are some of the best, and not because of Jon Stewart’s interviewing skills, but often in spite of them. He’s great with politicians and book authors, because he bothers with the research. But his celebrity interviews are often wacky, and typically don’t bother covering whatever movie is being plugged. I am particularly fond of his interviews with Steve Carell, where they often just stare at each awkwardly other for five minutes. The fact that Stewart phones it in with celebrities is what makes those interviews as good as they are. They’re better than most routine celeb interviews.
But last night, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis came on to skewer the lame celebrity interview. “You got any more lame questions,” Ferrell asks. “Maybe you should just prepare more next time,” offers Galifianakis.
Stewart offers the ultimate rejoinder: “You want me to go Hamm on your ass?”
Enter Jon Hamm, who ultimately piles on Stewart.
