Imagine A Perfect World, Where Men Didn't Lose Their Minds Over Menstruation

Men. They love a dick or fart joke, but make one comment about menstruation, and many a man will full-body cringe, turn pale, or reprimand you for being “disgusting.” They may even flee. Hell, that last reaction has made abrupt and grisly anecdotes about menstrual blood a handy tool to getting out of awkward party interactions since high school. But in a perfect world, men would not be squeamish about this common element of cisgender women’s lives. Hell, maybe they’d even take the kind of pride in the health of their wives and girlfriends that they inject into their cars.

This video conjures this perfect world with a sketch about men and tampons.

Man. Imagine a world where the stigma of periods didn’t force women to hide every symptom and every sanitary product like they were contraband. Imagine a world where men speak with knowledge, care, and enthusiasm about these basic tenements of women’s health, and share in our frustration about when basic necessities like tampons and sanitary pads are taxed as “luxury items.” Imagine a world where men’s concern over women’s well-being wasn’t considered un-macho or cucking, but just being a compassionate person.

This sketch is so sharply subversive, I kept waiting for it to reveal it’s a masterful ad campaign or a PSA. But nope. This the first video posted by Watson (Liam Ryan, Adam McKenzie, and Tegan Higginbotham), an Australian comedy troupe we’ll be keeping an eye on. I mean, out the gate they created a sketch reminiscent of Key & Peele’s Menstruation Orientation, but with a unique spin all its own.
