If You Pee Outside In -17 Degree Weather, Will It Freeze and Go Up Inside Your Body?

That headline is actually a partial quote from Gene in Bob’s Burgers from the phenomenal “Christmas in the Car” episode a few weeks ago. I only watched it this last Sunday, and like most people in America, I’m experiencing record breaking colds in Maine, and when I heard that question, part of me (the dumb part) was legitimately curious. Would it freeze up and go inside me?

A guy in Minnesota, who peed outside in -17 degree weather, answers the question.

One guy on YouTube (via Gawker), however, suggests that the video is rigged.

This can’t be real. I live fairly close to the artic [sic] circle (where it was MUCH colder) and this only happens with near-boiling water thrown in the air. The guy is hold a squirt-bottle, and not peeing. “Heuhuehue IT’S YELLOW” Yeah, because it’s colored, very warm water.

I think I prefer to believe that it’s actually real, so please YouTube, stop dispelling cool myths. The important thing to note, however, is that it does not appear to go up inside you, which I’m sure is a relief to many of you who have contemplated peeing into the Polar Vortex.
