Here's the Incredible Pitch Video That Convinced ABC to Bring Back The Muppets

Those lucky nerds who were able to attend the Muppets panel at Comic-Con this year were treated to a 10-minute-long pitch video that wasn’t intended for public viewing (or so they claim); it was just created to convince ABC to pick up the new primetime show The Muppets. However, due to overwhelming demand by us unluckier nerds, ABC has released the video. And it is spectacular. It definitely has a fairly adult-skewed feeling to it, specifically with jokes about Kermit’s (and Gonzo’s) sexual proclivities, some interspecies relationship bigotry aimed at Fozzy and his human girlfriend, and a whole lot of making out between Miss Piggy and Topher Grace (“Tophiggy!”).

The sexy stuff, though, isn’t over the top. It’s all part of a overall message that this show is going to entertain adults, with jokes designed to go over kids’ heads. Like utilizing the mockumentary format while simultaneously commenting on how tired that gimmick is. All with an added meta nod in the fact that the video was directed by Randall Einhorn, a recurring director on The Office.

Oh, and if you’ve now just fueled your Muppets appetite and are looking for more, here’s Miss Piggy “singing” what is clearly her personal anthem.
