'Hamiltrump' Is Significantly Deeper Than You Think It Is

Just this weekend, I heard an interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter, authors of The Hamilton Revolution, discussing how Hamilton the musical has and will change Broadway. Specifically that something as big as Hamilton has the ability to be a game changer, but will also produce a lot of sad ass copy cats.

This parody might not be revolutionary, but its execution is flawless.

Yes, the lyrics and choreography match perfectly, and nailing the parody subject is half the battle. But the pairing of Hamilton and Trump as subjects is perfect. Not just because their lives are so drastically different, but because you know goddamn well that Trump considers himself a “self made man.” When compared to a penniless, bastard, orphan, son of a whore and a Scotsman, you just know Trump thinks, “Yeah, samesies.” At the same time that Hamilton the musical is reframing racial themes of the past and finally making hip hop a viable musical form on Broadway, we also have a group of some of the most privileged people in the world openly bitching about being oppressed because they can’t throw around the N-word in public anymore. The fact that Trump thinks he’s as disadvantaged as Hamilton is such delicious irony, I want to eat it with a spoon.

Also that joke about wanting to bang his daughter is dead on.
