A few weeks ago, the midst of the Daniel Tosh controversy, a lot of debate was over whether a rape joke could be funny. A lot of smart people said that it could not, while an equal number of smart people demonstrated that — in the right context — a rape joke could work.
I suspect we’re about to have the same debate over whether a joke about a killing spree in a movie theater can be funny. Maybe. Maybe not. But this is certainly not a case where it is. In a show last night, Dane Cook added Aurora to his repertoire, and not very well, I might add.
You can listen to it below (the delivery does not help his case), but here’s the transcription:
“So I heard that the guy came into the theater about 25 minutes into the movie. And I don’t know if you’ve seen the movie, but the movie is pretty much a piece of crap. Yea, spoiler alert. I know that if none of that would have happened, pretty sure that somebody in that theater, about 25 minutes in, realizing it was a piece of crap, was probably like ‘ugh fucking shoot me.”
A bad joke AND a bad review of The Dark Knight Rises. You’re 0 for 2, dumbass.
