Over the weekend, Sam Jackson reached out to the celebrity world to take up the Eric Garner protest cause with the same fervor and enthusiasm they put into the ALS Ice Bucket challenge, offering a protest song other celebs could sing.
“All you celebrities out there who poured ice water on your heads, here’s a chance to do something else. I challenge all of you to sing the ‘I Ain’t Gonna Stop Until People are Free’ song.”
Alas, so far nobody of note (at least that I can find) has taken Jackson up on his challenge. I get it. It’s not quirky or silly, and there aren’t any readily available excuses for a celebrity to take his shirt off, and it may not be the kind of thing you can do without feeling a little self-conscious. But it’s the sort of thing that a few key celebrities could really propel.
Here’s the original, which is pretty goddamn great.
