Twitter Reacts To GOP's Obamacare Replacement

The GOP has officially unveiled the healthcare plan intended to replace the Affordable Care Act (or Obamacare), and according The LA Times, “it’s a nastier, more consumer-unfriendly proposal than even close followers could have expected.”

The plan—called The American Health Care Act—rolls back Medicaid expansions, allows “larger employers” opt out of providing full-time employees with insurance, totally cuts federal funds to Planned Parenthood, and “effectively shuts down private health insurance coverage for abortion.” The Congressional Budget Office warns it will “lead to lost coverage for millions and higher costs for millions more, but the GOP is pushing ahead anyway.” Meanwhile the wealthy will get a hefty tax cut, as the GOP chisels away scads of Obama initiatives.

However, New York Times notes one bright spot:

House Republican leaders said they would keep three popular provisions in the Affordable Care Act: the prohibition on denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, the ban on lifetime coverage caps and the rule allowing young people to remain on their parents’ health plans until age 26.

So it’s like Obamacare, but barely. It’s a twisted reboot that misunderstand much of what people loved about the original in the first place (you know, the whole valuing human lives over fat cat’s bank rolls). Twitter spun this concept into a merciless meme.
