Will There Be a Second Season of 'Perpetual Grace LTD'?

Whether there will be a second season of Epix’s Perpetual Grace LTD is probably the most important pop-culture related question to the lucky sixteen people in America who watch Perpetual Grace LTD. The ending of the first season was a goddamn doozy and a half, and all 16 people who completed the series almost assuredly yelled “WHAT THE F**K?” at their screens when it concluded.

I am not going to rehash how amazing Perpetual Grace LTD is, and why it’s one of the best TV shows of the year and definitely the most original — we covered that in our review, also boasting the best trailer of the year — but I will say that the season continued its greatness right up until the end, delivering one heart-stopping surprise and a maddening cliffhanger ending.

I’m not going to spoil it here, because I still want you all to check out the first season, though for those who did watch it and are wondering — desperately — if there will be a second season, well, that’s still kind of up in the air, according to Jimmi Simpson in an interview with EW:

Who knows? It’s a newish network and everything’s pretty tight-lipped right now. As far as people I have talked to, like Steve Conrad, Luis Guzman, Bruce, Chris, we all certainly would love to keep telling this story, but who knows what will happen. Regardless, I don’t think the team will be split up. If Epix shortsightedly chooses to not pick this show up, I see us all working together very soon.

So, the cast and creators are still up for it. I initially thought that Jimmi Simpson would have to get back to Westworld, but according to Simpson himself, he doesn’t even know if he’s in season 3, which reminds me that I have no recollection about what happened in season two. Anyway, it’s basically a decision that Epix will have to make.

Will Epix renew it? What even is Epix? Reminder: Epix is the MGM television network. It’s a premium channel you can get in your cable package, buy as a stand-alone streaming network for $6 a month or even add it as a channel to your Amazon Prime for $6 a month. Perpetual Grace LTD is definitely worth spending $6 to subscribe for a month so you can watch it (and while you’re there, you can check out the new series, Pennyworth, which — yes — is an Alfred Pennyworth prequel, and maybe Craig Ferguson’s stand-up special).

And here’s the thing about Epix: There’s a show on the network called Get Shorty, based on the film, starring Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano that’s about to air its third season. The network just concluded the second season of a show called Deep State starring Walton Goggins and Mark Strong. A show called Berlin Station starring Richard Armitage, Rhys Ifans, Ashley Judd, Keke Palmer, and Richard Jenkins ran for three seasons.

Have you ever heard of those shows? Do you think those shows get a lot of ratings? Probably not, and yet, that didn’t stop the upstart network for renewing them for two or three seasons. Why the hell wouldn’t they renew Perpetual Grace LTD, a show that is actually getting some positive press and spectacular reviews for the network, if only to keep Steve Conrad in house?

On the other hand, trying to wrangle that cast — Ben Kingsley, Jimmi Simpson, Terry O’Quinn, Luis Guzman, Kurtwood Smith — back together for a season two might run into some scheduling challenges. I’m guessing, however, that they can get the team back together as quickly as they did for season two of Steve Conrad’s Patriot on Amazon, which is to say: Hopefully, look for season two in late 2020 or early 2021.
