If you needed proof that originality occasionally does get rewarded, today it was announced that Syfy will be bringing Christopher Meloni and his imaginary friend back for a second season! According to the announcement, Happy! is a breakout hit for the channel, and ranks as Syfy’s best series premiere since The Magicians launched in 2016. I watched that premiere, and lovingly recapped it on this very website, and knowing that so many people tuned in makes me… well, happy! From the first blood-soaked dance sequence through the rest of the season, Happy! has remained the most batshit crazy thing I’ve ever seen on television. I honestly assumed it was too sick and weird to be a hit, but I’m so, yup, happy to be proved wrong!

The series is based on a graphic novel by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson, but since it has already expanded beyond the plot in the book there is really no way of knowing just what the creators have in store for the next season. Though perhaps we’ll get a hint when the first season finale airs this week. Speaking of which, here’s a sneak peek!

Why yes, that IS an imaginary furry flying unicorn torturing a sock puppet (which happens to be the imaginary friend of a crack-smoking, kidnapping, Very Bad Santa). I, uh, wouldn’t recommend tuning into the finale until you’re all caught up on the rest of the season.

The season finale of Happy! airs Wednesday at 10pm EST.
