AMC’s ‘Preacher’ is returning for its third season on June 24th, and the cable network is starting to release the first glimpses of what awaits Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy on their continued hunt for God. Namely: a detour to Jesse’s home of Angelville, a place full of terrible memories and even worse people, in an effort to bring Tulip back from the dead.
Joining the series are a few highly anticipated characters from the comics, including Jesse’s creepy Gran’ma (Betty Buckley) and her awful enforcers Jody (Jeremy Childs) and TC (Colin Cunningham). And while it doesn’t look like Gran’ma is gonna quite be the shriveled, bald terror that she was on the page, the actor playing Jody does look EXACTLY like a Steve Dillon drawing brought to life. Perhaps a little beefier than comics-Jody, but that oval face and those eye-bags are accurate AF.
Here’s a video focusing on the Angelville crew:
And here’s a sneak peak at Jesse pleading with dear ol’ Gran’ma for help:
Plot-wise though, it’s impossible to tell where this season is going to go in relation to the source material because the show has already remixed the story so heavily. The fact that it appears Jesse is taking Tulip, who was shot and killed at the end of last season, back to Angelville to save her is already a reversal — because in the comics she was killed at Angelville by Jody (on Gran’ma’s orders) in an effort to coerce Jesse into coming back into the family fold. All I know is that Tulip DOES come back to life, one way or another, as this video makes clear:
No clue yet on what’s going on with Arseface, Hitler, or God. Which is one of the stranger sentences I’ve ever written, now that I think about it. Though Herr Starr is definitely coming back, based on this overview!
And finally, here’s an animated teaser that reveals nothing but is super pretty, so fuck it — let’s enjoy ourselves, shall we?
