I am not a regular viewer of America’s Got Talent, but I do make it a point to watch all the Golden Buzzer winners with the kids in the beginning of each season. Because most of those Buzzer winners end up in the finals, we also watch the finale just to see who won. There really wasn’t much question about who would win this year; there were a number of talented competitors, but we had a sense of who would win dating back to the audition round.

It is, however, at least worth watching videos of the final four, beginning with V. Unbeatable, an Indian dance troupe that performs stunts so dangerous that the “V” in “V. Unbeatable” is the first initial of a member of the group who was killed during a performance. You’ll understand how if you watch the clip below. They actually finished in the top four on a dance competition in India last year. They were very impressive in the finals.

The third-place finisher was a stand-up comedian who was born with ectrodactyly and calls himself the “Cripple Threat of Comedy.”

A choir out of Detroit, Detroit Youth Choir— who Terry Crews elevated to the finals with his Golden Buzzer beater choice — ended up coming in second place.

I liked them a lot, although I thought the South African Ndlovu Youth Choir outperformed them in the finals, if only because Detroit Youth Choir performed the same song they’d performed in their initial audition.

The winner of the night, however, has been obvious since June. Kodi Lee, who is blind, autistic, and has one of the most incredible singing voices you will ever hear, won the 2019 competition. Here’s his winning performance.

It’s worth checking out his audition performance, too. I know it has become very formulaic on this show to bring out someone who — by appearance — doesn’t seem like someone who can sing only to surprise the hell out of the judges (the Susan Boyle thing), but holy shit, it still works sometimes. However, they should probably retire that trope after Kodi Lee. This audition has been seen by 30 million viewers now.
