What's Streaming This Month? This Monster Hunter, Who Probably Won't Be Traveling With A Baby

WE MADE IT! We’re almost across the finish line, done with the hellish marathon of indignity that has been the year 2019. Just one more month to get through, full of chintzy holiday programming, Michael Bay explosions, and… oh who am I kidding, we’re all just gonna keep watching Baby Yoda, aren’t we?

via GIPHY

And on that note…

DISNEY +
The bad news is, Disney doesn’t appear to be adding any new originals until next year, but it hardly matters because the platform’s weekly rollout schedule means new episodes of its launch programs will continue to debut all month. Which means we can all keep watching The Mandalorian and ignoring High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: The Multi-Colonated and that Jeff Goldblum one. Oh, and they’re adding Thor: Ragnarok on December 5!

Apple TV+
Kristy already gave us a spoiler-free look at the first three episodes of the eerie M. Night Shyamalan-produced Servant, which launched on November 28 and will continue adding episodes weekly. Apple is also adding Minhal Baig’s festival favorite, Hala (December 6), starring Geraldine Viswanathan (Miracle Workers) as a Pakistani American teenager balancing her family’s expectations with her life outside the home, and Truth Be Told (December 6), a series about a true-crime podcaster re-examining a murder case that may have resulted in an innocent man being convicted because of her own reporting. Once again, Apple has set itself apart with its casting, somehow luring Octavia Spencer, Aaron Paul, Elizabeth Perkins, Ron Cephas Jones, Mekhi Phifer, and DUAL Lizzy Caplans to bring this story to life.

AMAZON PRIME
If any sci-fi fans in your life have been yelling at you to check out The Expanse already, then you’re in luck — Amazon saved the series from cancellation and is getting set to launch its fourth season on December 13. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel also returns for its third season on December 6, as Midge and Susie take their success on tour, and strap in folks… WE’VE GOT A REDMAYNE ALERT!!!

via GIPHY

That’s right, Amazon is launching The Aeronauts, starring Eddie “The Honking Terror” Redmayne and Felicity Jones, in theaters on December 6 and online December 20. It’s about old timey balloonists I guess?

Oh, and before Roxana yells at me, I need to inform you that The Last Black Man in San Francisco will be available on December 5. Everyone I know who has seen it has raved about it, and I’m looking forward to finally getting a chance to watch it myself!

HULU
First off, why didn’t anybody tell me about Reprisal?!

Like, WHAT?! A stylish retro noir about a femme fetale who is out for revenge against the gang that left her dead, starring Abigail Spencer (Timeless), Rodrigo Santoro (Westworld), Mena Massoud (Aladdin), and a for-some-reason-uncredited Ron Perlman? Sign me all the way up, please. This one launches December 6. Then later this month we’ll get the third and final season of Marvel’s Runaways (December 13) and of course, the conclusion of whatever the hell has been going on in Castle Rock.

Netflix
I don’t know which one of you asked for “Superman, but make him Legolas”, but you’re in luck: The Witcher is finally launching on December 20! Will Henry Cavill’s long-haired monster hunter be able to distract viewers from Disney’s favorite bounty hunter? Is there room in our hearts for both, or have we already been stuffed full of Baby Yoda? We’ll have to wait and see.

Michael Bay’s big damn Netflix ‘splosion, 6 Underground, is available on December 13, while Noah Baumbach’s intensely emotional drama Marriage Story will be added to the platform on December 6. One film sees Ryan Reynolds leading a team of really ridiculously rich people in saving the world or whatever, and the other film is about Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson breaking up. Guess which is which.

Returning series include the second season of the super-creepy You (December 26) and the second season of the fine but forgotten Lost in Space (December 24), a show with a great cast that I feel like I enjoyed, but that I couldn’t give you any concrete details of beyond Evil Parker Posey and ice or something? More promising is the comedy front this month, which sees specials from Tiffany Haddish, Ronny Chieng, Michelle Wolf, Jack Whitehall, and John Mulaney! And in Ian Somerhalder news, he’s got a brand new vampire show called V Wars (December 5) but this time he’s not playing the bloodsucker. He’s a doctor now, OK?
