With Christmas fast approaching, more shows are getting into the holiday spirit. For me, it’s always fun to watch entertainers add an extra dash of cheer into their mix. The best ones take what they excel at and wrap the holidays around it like a neatly tied bow. Last night’s sketch on Jimmy Kimmel: Live, with Kimmel and his sidekick Guillermo, is a perfect example of that.

The setup is simple enough: Jimmy and Guillermo are working a temp job at the North Pole, interviewing kids for Santa’s Naughty or Nice list. Right off the bat, I was hooked by Jimmy and Guillermo’s elf costumes. They look fanfreakingtastic. Not only do they look great, the two late-night stars look so nonchalant about wearing them that it makes it feel extra silly. Just two dudes, dressed as elves, NBD.

What really makes the segment sing is that they interview an actual child. Kids say the darndest things, after all, and the child they got is no exception. “I help my parents cook and… drink water” got a solid chuckle out of me. Also, Jimmy and Guillermo’s deadpan questions and responses make for a hilarious back and forth.

The whole bit actually got me thinking: I would watch a whole show of this. A spin-off, if you will. It wouldn’t have to be year-round, of course, or more than an episode or two, but watching Kimmel and Guillermo working at the North Pole, interviewing kids, getting into elf shenanigans, that’s something we all deserve. It could become a holiday tradition!
