In a passionate 12-minute monologue on The Daily Show’s first show back in over a week, Trevor Noah spoke not just about how Black Lives Matter protests have spread across the country and the globe but about what these protests, in only two weeks, have already accomplished in America. “We are already seeing incredible results, both large and small,” Noah says.

Among the accomplishments listed by Noah? The removal of Confederate statues around the country over the objections of those who still say, “If you take down the statue, how will people learn history?”

“Read a book, mother f**cker,” Noah says. “That’s how you learn history.” Speaking of which, Noah also highlights how books like How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi and The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander are now topping bestseller lists because white people want to educate themselves.

Noah also singles out the fact that “people are saying Black Lives Matter in public,” including everyone from Mitt Romney to corporate brands to the NFL. “I don’t know if these companies will do something to actually show that they believe Black Lives Matter other than just saying it, but it’s still a major step for corporations who were terrified of that phrase just a few years ago and are now saying it as a part of their corporate ethos. “

Finally, Noah speaks to the defund the police movement. “A month ago, if you said any of this, you would sound like you were crazy and it was a pipe dream that would never happen. But after these protests? It may soon become a reality.”
