Netflix was very smart this morning to drop a trailer for their upcoming Shondaland series, Bridgerton, because it’s one of the only things available online right now that can distract us from the election. The tone is very Shonda Rhimes, although the subject material is decidedly not, because it does not involve doctors or lawyers or firefighters or academia, other professions where there is a high probability of co-workers either sleeping together or murdering one another. It is instead about “wealth, lust, and betrayal set in the backdrop of Regency era England, seen through the eyes of the powerful Bridgerton family.”
Wealth, lust, and betrayal are certainly the signature ingredients of a Shonda Rhimes series. This one comes specifically from longtime Shonda Rhimes collaborator Chris Van Dusen, who should not be confused for the children’s author.
