I don’t know how many Dune book readers there are among us, but we’ll all be the first to tell you that the deeper you dive into Dune lore, the crazier and dumber it all gets. My general advice is not to bother reading past the first book in the series. But, if you must, definitely do not read past the six books written by Frank Herbert himself. There lies madness. Herbert’s son wrote the later books in the series in collaboration with Kevin J. Anderson, and they are just not worth the headache.

MAX’s upcoming limited series, Dune: Prophecy, is based on Brian Herbert and Anderson’s 2012 book, Sisterhood of Dune. The trailer gives strong “Game Of Thrones In Space” vibes. Wait…is Game Of Thrones just Dune set in a mythic past instead of a mythic future? There’s something for you to think about over the holiday weekend. You’re welcome.

Dune: Prophecy stars Emily Watson (God’s Creatures), Olivia Williams (The Nevers), Mark Strong, Travis Fimmel (Raised By Wolves), Josh Heuston, Jihae (Succession), Chris Mason, Edward Davis, and Jodhi May (The Witcher). The six-episode series premieres this fall on MAX.

Speaking of Game Of Thrones, season two of House Of The Dragon is coming.

The upcoming season will see the return of many season one actors. Rhys Ifans, Matt Smith, Graham McTavish, Fabien Frankel, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Ewan Mitchell will be joined by a long list of Targaryens, Lannisters, Hightowers, Westerlings, and Starks.

House Of The Dragon Season Two begins airing on June 16th on MAX.

In news that breathes less fire, Only Murders In The Building is also returning for another season. The troublesome trio leaves The Arconia for Los Angeles this season as they pursue the mystery of who killed Charles’ stunt double, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), at the end of season three.

Along with the usual suspects, this season of Only Murders In The Building stars Meryl Streep, Melissa McCarthy, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Molly Shannon, and Kumail Nanjiani. It premieres on Hulu on August 27th.

In this week’s lagniappe, I want to share this little French number whose title caught my eye. The trailer blends the existential angst of high school with that of being a vampire who doesn’t want to kill its food. I’m not sure where you can watch it outside of France, but keep your eyes open for Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person.
