With Hannah Horvath moving to Iowa this season to enroll in the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, the thought of an entire season devoted to her colleagues in the school standing in for the audience and meta-commenting on Hannah’s white privilege is almost too much to bear. I don’t need to hear my own thoughts regurgitated through someone else’s mouth, and I really don’t care how self-aware Dunham is. Unless Hannah actually evolves from the experience, I have no desire to hear those criticisms for the next eight episodes, especially with the show’s more interesting characters (Ray, Adam) sidelined in New York.
Thank God for Andrew Rannells’ Elijah, who at least allows us to forget about every other character and focus only on him. In a way, he too, is speaking for the audience.
Even if you hate everyone else on the show, there’s still one person we all love on Girls, including Elijah.
Still, Girls is not for everyone. You need a sturdy constitution.
Thankfully for those of us with occasional moments of weakness, Elijah brings a much-needed sense of revelry to the series.
He also provides Girls with inspirational wisdom.
And if you have no desire to see Marnie on the receiving end of analingus
Elijah is giving out handjobs, and he doesn’t give a shit what your sexual orientation is.
So, here’s hoping that Elijah makes an appearance on every party episode this season, because I don’t know that I can continue without him.
