The power ranking rank the top ten episodes from Sunday, October 31st, to Saturday, November 6th

10. Sons of Anarchy: We’re finally seeing some action in Ireland, and while there were a couple of tense sequences, narratively, the noose is still way too loose. They need to tighten it, and also — come on — don’t go down the incest path.

9. Community: An off episode is still one of the ten best shows of the week, if only for Abed’s string of Mean Girls zingers and the Secret Garden subplot, which may have been better in theory than in execution, but still gets points for the idea.

8. Modern Family: “Oh, sorry. I burned my lady fingers.” A good episode, which dealt with Phil’s inferiority complex, Lily’s Asian stereotype commercial, and Jay’s inability to remember (un)important relationship milestones.

7. Cougar Town: Yes. I’m doing it. I won’t hide my enormous affection for “Cougar Town” any longer. If you quit on the show early in its run, or never started it because of the title, you should definitely rethink that decision. It is consistently funny, and the chemistry between the cast is outstanding. It’s also a great lush show.

6. Boardwalk Empire: That early promise is now beginning to bloom. If you’ve fallen behind because of disinterest, you’d be wise to catch up. (Read the recap)

5. Dexter: Best episode of the season so far. By a lot. (Read the recap)

4. Terriers: I have no idea if this show’s mediocre ratings put it on the bubble for renewal on a cable channel, but in the off chance that it is facing possible cancellation, I can’t encourage you all enough to go back, find the episodes from the beginning of the season, stick with it after the first two mediocre eps, and follow this to the end. It’s a great show.

3. Friday Night Lights: Because many of you who watch this won’t see it until it airs on NBC this summer, I won’t spoil anything, but once again, “FNL” successfully manages to frame the biggest winners as underdogs, so that we can continue to care about the characters even when things are going well.

2. 30 Rock: An episode that demonstrated how important that Jack and Liz Lemon dynamic is to the entire show as a whole. Without them, “30 Rock” is little more than mediocre.

1. The Walking Dead: For all the reasons elucidated in TK’s review.
